Thanks Migray, it’s the same for the DB18 clock; the internal mechanism is exactly like that shown in the clocks4classics website, just a different front face and back plate. So that’s the way to go for me, half the price of converting to quartz and retaining much more originality.

Re: 1951 DB 18 boot latch
Mike,
This is the part that is fixed to the boot floor
[attachment=0]IMG_0588-min.jpeg[/attachmentu]
But you probably mean the part under the panel that Db n j mentioned ? In which case I can return to the garage on Saturday with a suitable screwdriver to remove said panel.

Re: AC Car Clock
Thank you all for your input. Having an electronics background and wanting to retain as much of the original internals as possible, I was preferring the clocks4classic option, but their website is adamant that the kit only fits certain models of Smith or Jageur clock. JDO have confirmed that they ca...

AC Car Clock
Has anybody found a person who can service the AC Clocks circa 1950s with the cream dials? Mine has already been sent to JDO twice in the last 4 years, so I have concluded that their expertise is only with the later Smiths clocks. SpeedyCables only advertise repair of Smiths instruments, but can con...

Re: 1951 DB 18 SS license plate #
Hi Mike, If you don’t get anything from the Wakefield authorities and it is only a long shot: I found the first owners name together with the car’s build number chalked on the back of my DB18 SS door cards. Using family history resources, I was then able to find out some information about him. I had...

Re: 1951 DB 18 SS tail light lens wanted
Mike, They occasionally appear on ebay, but make sure that you get the L464C version as there are several versions of the L464 with different letter suffixes. You can have this one for the cost of postage to the US. Although it is damaged at one end, the chrome surround does just cover the missing p...

Re: Special sport boot stays
Hi Gary, This photo is a close up of the central part of the stay mechanism, and I think that the pin needs to drop into that semi-circular recess for the boot to stay open. Unfortunately, there is no means of adjustment to achieve this within the stay mechanism itself. IMG_0553.jpeg The downside fr...

Re: Special sport boot stays
Hi David,
I had the same problem, but after several attempts, found that this arrangement minimised contact damage to the boot side trim panels when the boot was in the closed position. Chris
