Re: DB18 Rocker Shaft Lubrication

Thanks Nick, they didn't have anything that small, but suggested that such fittings might be used in fuel pipe applications. That, and a similar comment from the local plumbers merchant led to a call to the heating engineer that maintained our oil fired Aga when we lived in a house that had one fitt...

Re: DB18 Rocker Shaft Lubrication

I have manged to re-install the oil feed pipe by swapping over the compression nuts at each end of the pipe. This entailed first removing the olives, so they have suffered further damage and the leak from the top end elbow has worsened. I started the engine and after a minute or so, saw oil emerging...

Re: DB18 Ritz body

Hi Michael, Whilst searching for your article, I came across a 1939 reprint of a review of this model by the “Motor” magazine. It was contributed by a Swedish member, who owned a Ritz at that time. The member knew of 3 other cars and that 30 had been manufactured. I will include a photocopy of the a...

Re: DB18 Rocker Shaft Lubrication

Thanks Steve, this morning’s visit to the plumbers merchant was not fruitful except that they thought that similar small bore fittings were used in Agas. I don’t think you have Agas in Australia— they are old fashioned cooking ranges traditionally found in farmhouses. So while I research that avenue...

Re: DB18 Rocker Shaft Lubrication

Further examination this morning indicates that the poor internal thread of the nut and a distorted olive are also contributing to the problem; so I'm off to the local plumbers merchant tomorrow to see what they have. So how are the other three pedestals fixed to the cylinder head? Are they just res...

Re: DB18 Rocker Shaft Lubrication

Yesterday's oil flow test has been delayed as I had a problem installing the feed pipe at the top end. It appears that the elbow thread is damaged; the nut jumps off the thread after a single turn and before the olive is compressed. Has anybody had reason to replace this pipe using modern pneumatic ...

Re: DB18 Rocker Shaft Lubrication

GrahamB: thanks I’ll try that but first need to reinstall the rocker oil feed pipe, which I removed after noticing oil weeping from both top and bottom unions. GrahamE: it was this pipe that triggered the post. I was surprised at its small ID, and wondered if there was a connection with a knock from...

DB18 Rocker Shaft Lubrication

Due to a slight concern about the valve gear not receiving enough oil, I am contemplating removing the whole rocker shaft assembly to check that the hole below the rearmost pedestal is not (partially) blocked. It looks like it is held to the cylinder head by three setscrews through (from the front o...
