Re: Stupid question

I take the same approach - as long as it has enough oil in it, and it sounds ok, that's good enough. I still wish the light would work though...

Re: Db18 tyres

I commented on the original thread as I had just fitted a set of Blockleys. Seven years on, they are still on the car and only just wearing in. It doesn't get much use, and has always been kept in a dark garage, so the tyres look almost new. The negative comment referred to an apparent harsh ride, b...

Re: Daimler 15 steering "wobble"

Dave, By chance the same thing is currently being discussed on the RREC forum, as the pre-war cars can suffer from this issue. Topics being talked about include camber, castor, tyre pressures, spring poundages in side steering tubes etc. One comment was 'As a very rough guide, vibration from the fro...

Re: Recolouring leather

Yes I did the full interior on a Rolls-Royce Corniche convertible a few years ago using Furniture Clinic products. Got good results but it is very hard work using thinners etc to remove the old surface, not helped by the fact that someone had previously had a go with other paint type products. I hav...

Re: Stupid question

But why is it, with these 3 samples at least, that the oil light is duff but the ignition light still works fine? That's the bit I can't fathom out. Easy enough to replace with something modern of course, but that's another piece of originality gone.

Re: Stupid question

Not a stupid question at all! I have exactly the same problem on my ELS24. I dismantled the lens and stuck a very small but very bright LED torch up it - absolutely nothing. I have tried cleaning it out, assuming it might be an accumulation of dirt, but nothing has made a difference so far. I though...

Re: LA10 Possible drag in Top Gear?

Think that could be it - you said previously that with the normal needle the carb was overflowing, which suggests either a weak needle valve and spring, or too much fuel pressure. However, my car has an electric SU pump which operates at around 3psi and is the smallest they do, so I don't think 5psi...

Re: LA10 Possible drag in Top Gear?

'I've found the standard needle is way to rich and have had to go leaner than the leaner needle I've seen quoted'. Something clearly not right there - have you determined what is causing this? I've got a Colourtune and know they are useful, but 'leaner than the leanest needle quoted' doesn't sound r...

Re: LA10 Possible drag in Top Gear?

You could also just check the mixture. My car was running a bit rich recently so I screwed in the main jet a touch. Evidently I overdid it because on the way to a car show the following weekend it was seriously down on power, struggling to get up hills etc. Once at the show I tweaked the carb and no...
