Re: V8 Saloon - Brakes pulling to right

Brakes pulling to one side can be caused by several issues.. the most common being a sticking brake caliper.. the second most common (and least costly to resolve) would be a comprimsed flex hose.. remedy depends upon individual ability and equipment on hand. start with a close inspection with car on...

Re: 5 speed transmission

Looks like Sonus is fitting his engine into a Triumph TR4/6... I would think for most people, the Conversion Components kit from NZ would make most sense for those wishing to go manual, as its been developed, tried and tested by quite few.. Sonus has adapted the BW T5 gearbox very nicely.. looks be ...

Re: V8 Weaknesses

reply to Christopher Story :- as regards the 4 1/2 V8.. dimensionally its approx 1 1/2" wider and approx 2 1/2' longer than the 2 1/2 .. yes its YUUUGE compared with most contemporary v8s..and considerably heavier than the 2 1/2 to boot. The GM 350 cu in ( 5.7 litres) fits easily in the jag/dai...

Re: V8 Weaknesses

To answer Ian Slade.. when BL raced the rover P6 they actually used a US built engine ('Traco', .famous for their racing v8s based on GM parts.. was the outfit that supplied the engine(s) to BL) based on a larger displacement Oldsmobile all alloy block..same one as was used by repco brabham.( which ...

Re: V8 Weaknesses

buick/oldsmobile/pontiac 215 cu in ( 3.5 litres) was the engine that rover initially built under license..and improved it and made it larger displacement over the 30+ year production run .. the primary difference being that rover sand cast the block..whera's the b.o.p. block was die cast and somewha...

Re: Valve Guide seals

depending on where you are located there area number of solutions.. most machine shops in my area (Northern Ca) have a special tool that allow them to cut and groove the top of the valve guide to take a modern 'top hat' seal.. I always have the guides bored out to take silicone bronze inserts as wel...

Re: V8 250 Saloon Oil Pressure

the elecronic 'sender'unit is notoriously inaccurate.. and the saloons tend to wear out their main bearings faster than the lighter, taller geared SP 250.. anything less than 35 psi at above 1800 rpm should be treated as 'suspicious' .. I believe the oil pressure relief valve has a higher setting on...

Re: V8 Weaknesses

Why go with a V8? rimarily, its compact and produces more power from less size and weight. As a 'comparison':- the BOP 215 cu in alloy V8 is similar in age to the turner V8 as regards its design date.. production ended in USA by '64.. then taken up by Rover in UK for an additional production run las...

Re: 15 for sale with strange engine.

Kudos to the restorer who saved the car and brought it back to life.. good common sense to use an MGB engine and box in the absence of the originals..(its simple, practical and robust, and has adequate power) and it has been very thoughtfully done, as regards the over all details :- the air cleaner ...
