Jaguar 3.5 litre and Jaguar 100 parts catalogue, issued 1947

Since Daimler and Jaguar are metaphorically joined at the hip maybe someone can help me. At a recent swap meet I bought an original parts catalogue for the Jaguar 3.5 litre (saloon and coupe) plus the Jaguar 100. Publication date is December 1947. Do any members out there know of anyone who would be...

Re: LD10 gearbox whine in intermediate gears

Modesty prevents me from stating the writer’s name who compiled an article several years ago explaining how these gearboxes work. It used to be accessible on the website, but now I can’t find it anywhere. Whine: if it whines in neutral it could be the front support bearing of the input driveshaft; i...

Re: The Ghost in the machine

I would definitely check the A and A1 connections to the regulator are secure. If they’re OK it could be the regulator itself.

Re: Db18 fuel gauge

If the car’s wiring hasn’t been disturbed then all you need to do is connect the sender unit’s wire to its terminal and earth the body. Operate the float slowly from its lowest position to its highest position and the petrol gauge should travel from empty to full. (At midpoint the gauge should show ...

Re: DB18 DHC Rear Hub Seal

Graham, I agree with your post wholeheartedly! The method our sponsor used to lock these hub nuts is, from an engineering standpoint, fine; but from a maintenance standpoint it is bloody stupid. The same issue applies to the gearbox input driveshaft’s ring nut which is locked by the same way. I cann...

Re: DB18 DHC Rear Hub Seal

Removal of the hub is pretty straightforward. First of all, forget all about the castellated nut because this doesn’t need to be disturbed. Right, here we go: Once the brake drum has been removed there will be 2 exposed threaded holes - N.B. ignore those for the brake drum screws! which use the same...

Re: The Pre-selector and hills

I often wonder why Daimler didn’t incorporate a 6th position for the gearbox camshaft which would fully engage 2 gears - say 1st and reverse; after all, automatic gearboxes employ this as a matter of course. Living in Norfolk - very flat, Norfolk - wouldn’t present a problem...hmm...although Carrow ...

Daimler Scout part 2

Apologies! I meant to post the first article here and not on the forum page. Part 2: The Scout transfer gearbox. The differential is to allow variations in speed of the front and rear axles when cornering since the 2 radii described by the axles are different. Sorry if that’s teaching granny to suck...

Daimler Scout gearbox

Some illustrations of the Daimler Scout gearbox from the manual printed for the Government. The running and brake gear are based on those of the DB18 with a few fundamental differences, primarily the reverse epicyclic being replaced by a 5th forward gear. Reverse was achieved by a remote forward and...
