Re: Seized clutch on SP

If either failure mentioned above had occurred you would feel it immediately as no weight required to press the clutch pedal, so it is much more likely that the driven plate has seized to the flywheel. I have found that the cure for this ( hopefully) is to get the engine and box really hot by idling...

Re: V8 Saloon gone lopsided again

Fully extending the dampers when raising the car is very very unlikely to have damaged seals in them. However if you have seized damper(s), which does occasionally happen, it is possible for one of them to have seized at full bump ( i.e. at its shortest setting) and that might just hold the car in a...

Re: Carburretor connections

I agree with brian H that this sounds like weak mixture. It also sounds to me as though it could be caused by manifold air leaks . You can check this by playing an unlit butane torch round the manifold joints whicle the engine is running badly - if it picks up you have found the point of leakage. Th...

I can't see any reference to it, Quantas , but its absence does not detract from the interest of your original post

Re: The genesis of the unified thread form.

I am afraid that what is said about Ford is not strictly correct, in that although US Ford rejected the proposed contract , Ford Britain were enthusiastic participants from 1940 onwards . I have not looked at the actual figures recently, but the Ford Plant at Urmston, Manchester manufactured an enor...

I can't help you with a restorer suggestion, but I am just interested in the details of yours. Re: Conquest Sunroof - STUCK!

Assuming that your roof is the solid metal type, similar to those of the Jaguars Mk VII to IX of the same period, then the method or removal of the roof is as follows : Unlock the roof with the T handle and slide back no more than 4 inches/100mm Remove the two side wood cappings of the aperture surr...

Re: Speedometer bouncing

This usually indicates a worn/ partially seized speedo cable . Disconnect the cable outer from the speedo , drop it down below the panel, and pull the inner cable out - don't use too much force and have a rag or towel to hand as the inner is usually very greasy . If there are any frayed or rusted ar...
