Re: Bolt sizes in the Spare Parts catalogue

I agree. The number of bolts and the variation in length certainly sounds like they’re talking about the gearbox bottom cover - definitely not the engine’s sump bolts, and the parts list on the same page is definitely referring to the gearbox.

Re: Wheel removal V4 1/2/V32

If you have left hand and right hand wheel nut threads, the left hand goes on the passenger (near side) wheels and the right hand on the drivers side. However, if the hubs have been inadvertently swapped over in the past then...

Re: LA10 Preselector Issues

You’re absolutely right about pumping the pedal having no effect because that simply will not rectify band slippage! This sounds very much like there’s not enough toggle action which typically shows up in reverse, 1st and to a lesser degree 2nd because they have to deal with lots of torque. To recti...

Re: 15/18 Early gearbox multi-plate clutch

That sounds horribly wrong! Starting from the rear the clutch plate sequence should be bronze first, then steel, then bronze, then steel etc, ending with steel. There are 5 pairs of clutch plates for the DB18 and I would imagine that’s the norm. BTW, the reason this small clutch can transmit the sam...

Re: Db18 gearbox internals

That’s a good question and I don’t have the answer. These plates wear but they last for ages, but what I did was rely on my intuition plus compare the gap between the bronze plates with a couple of other shafts that I had. I don’t think Daimler ever set down any wear limits on the little critters - ...

Re: Db18 gearbox internals

Top gear is achieved by engaging a small multiplate clutch. The input drive shaft carries the driving clutch plates and the 3rd gear brake drum carries the driven clutch plates. When the clutch is engaged the input drive shaft and the 3rd gear brake drum rotate as a unit thus locking the input and o...

Conversion tables. Loads of ‘em part 1

For those who need to convert volumes, weights, areas, lengths and God knows what else, these have been copied from the Sunbeam Rapier and Alpine workshop manual. Rootes Group manuals are invariably good for this sort of information.
