Re: braking power unit SP 250
regarding 'spongy pedal' after fitting a servo/booster :- if the unit is placed high on the car (above height of the master cylinder) bleeding problems are to be expected.. you can use a power bleeder to overcome this (they come with adaptors to fit on the master cylinder and are pressurised by comp...

Re: Tow/winching point 2.5 V8 saloon
the common place to hook the front of the car up is via both sides through the lower front suspension 'wishbone's' close to the crossmember pivot point.. most towing trucks have hooks they can slip in there.. I use chains and secure them with a removable 'turnbuckle' link as used by the yachting fra...

Re: Steering box adjustment
the unfortunate problem with steering box wear is that it tends to take place in the area that gets most use .. +/-25o either side of straight ahead.. ergo if you remove the slack, commonly you gain tights spots in 'other' areas... One successful 'dodge' I've used, is to fill the box with 'motor hon...

Re: Oil rope seal
if you have a 3/4" drive deep socket set, there is usually one that is the correct external diameter to bed the car crank rope seal in, as per the correct factory tool..which is not always possible to find.

Re: Saloon float chamber overflows
if the floats are known to be good, the the issue is weeping float valves.. if you whack the top of the float chamber sharply with smallish brass hammer, it temporarily fixes the problem.. (till next time it happens) .. I have a friend who used to re-build carburetors for the 356 porches.. he 'bench...

Re: Ceramic Coating Exhaust Manifolds
since they are out of sight, there is no 'cosmetic' reason to coat them.. as regards heat dissipation.. its all rather ambiguous.. the heat exists and will find a way to disperse.. you can 'alumicote' them (this is a similar process to traditional metal spraying) which will allow more heat disperse ...

Re: V8 250 rear axle front pinion seal
Iv personally never come accross any paper gasket related to pinion seal on a salisbury 4 HA or Dana 44 rear axle.. there ARE paper gaskets on the axle shaft bearing housings however.. these are assembled thus :- replace seal in housing.. then fit gasket after applying a suitable sealant on both sid...

Re: Bumper rechroming
There are number of 'issues' which determine quality and cost .. first is the amount of work required to prep the parts for plating..removing dents, filling holes, and polishing out the imperfections ready for plating, all take time and skill..which adds to the price.. the 'other' factor is type of ...

Re: V8-250 Saloon: Fan Belt - Solid or Tooth
Can't advise on belt ID number or sizes.. the alternator equipped cars have a shorter belt due to smaller pulley. (alternators spin faster to make the extra wattage) The important thing about belts is their quality.. some do come with 'teeth'..which theoretically should grip better, but would also w...
