Re: 2 1/2 main bearing caps....
Sonus, thank you for the advice.. phoning is a bit tricky due to the time difference ( 8hrs from here to uk) I have emailed Russ and Andrew but zero response.. Robert Grinter did respond and supplied a cap which is now fitted and the block has all been re-machined (bored .030 over.. and the main bea...

Re: Sump removal, V8 250
its really a messy job to remove the sump with engine in situ..but it can be done..the tricky part is getting all the mating surfaces sufficiently clean to re-assemeble properly. If the reason for the 'problem' is a leaking rear main seal. you might consider looking into the reason that it is leakin...

Re: Daimler V8 Rocker Cover Spanner
Nice, thoughtfully conceived and useful tool for the daimler mechanic....it would likely prevent any damage in removal of older rings that have locked in place due to age and corrosion/crud build up in threads..(seems they are commonly damaged on other edges from hammer/chisel merchants) for my part...

Re: WANTED.. 2 1/2 V8 main bearing caps......
Zero response from Russ Carpenter.. but Robert Grinter came up with what i require and its on its way ... I expect to have the engine assembled and ready to install by end of June.. Ive rebuilt all ancillaries over the past week or so.. With the last of some really badly messed up components, the ex...

Re: 2 1/2 main bearing caps....
Update.. Tim in Sacramento kindly supplied me with one cap.. unfortunately it turned out to be the No1 cap and was the only one that had been salvageable from his parts engine . Robert Grinter was able to supply one and its on the way from UK (along with some modified valve guides) ... engine block ...

Re: VIBRATION
torque converters commonly seem to have balancing problems on the BW 35 gearbox.. Ive had this issue on at least 3 Daimler 2 1/2s over the years .. replacing the converter resolved the problem.. easy to figure out as its engine speed related , rather than road speed..

Re: engine oil sp250
Given the high loads on tappets Id think an oil with high ZDDP content is important.. here in USA I run diesel engine oils in my other classics ..most of which are BMC .. the B series BMC engines are well known to eat up tappets and cams before the rest of the engine has wear setting in. Ive had no ...

Re: WANTED.. M. Major engine bearings ...
further update.. the bearings that Gosnays carry that require narrowing to fit are 'bi-metal' bearings ( tin alloy) as opposed to 'tri metal' of the original vandervell product . given the high loads on these bearings I suspect they will be fine on mains, but likely one requires tri metal for the co...

Re: SP250 Wire Wheels
this is a reply to J Sabah:-In comparison between dayton and dunlop spoke wheels, the dayton product always used to come out on top.. the dunlop wheels (as far as i know.. have not checked for several years) are manufactured in India.. the daytons in USA .. due to the significantly better quality of...

Re: VIBRATION
firstly its important to isolate the actual area the vibration is coming from.. drivetrain vibration is very different from that emanating from suspension/wheels...if it occurs at the speeds you suggest and is constant regardless of engine speed/ what gear the car is in, look to the wheels/tyres as ...
