Re: Foreign gearbox

I sent it to 'Speedy Cables'. you will find them on the internet.
They calibrate speedometers to your measurements.
You have to count the tyre revs and the cable turns over a certain distance, send in your speedo head and it comes back accurate!

Re: Foreign gearbox

Toyota W57 or W58 gearbox is good in a Dart, don't know about saloon. There are two popular Toyota gearboxes used in conversions: W57 and W58. They are the same externally, main diferences are that the W58 is identifyable by its cast Iron sandwich plate and a higher 5th ratio. Also gear lever positi...

Re: SP250 rear hub seal replacements

Can you not slacken the nuts off a bit and drive around erratically to loosen them up before going in with the heavy stuff?

Re: 5 speed transmission

I have the same Land Rover pressure plate and it is ok, but you do need to re-drill two dowel holes and the clutch pedal has standard weight. By the way, do you have a record of the part code for the clutch relaese [thrust] bearing you used? I have had trouble getting one and ended up putting my old...

Re: Knock off wheels for sp250

In my view, you need special front hubs. The bolt on adaptors make the wheels stick out too much and it gets ugly. The rears look better for the extra width, just re-drill the holes to suit the SP's studs. Why consider powder coating the wheels when you describe them as very nice? Powder coating can...

Re: Spongey brakes

Long first push? Everyone above is right.... hoses, play in bearings, restrictor valve, movenent anywhere etc... I fitted Goodridge hoses and but was not sure about tightening the bearings up tight. My solution was to fit a 7/8" brake master cylinder [which I got from Performance Braking in Mon...

Re: thread identification sp250

Morris was metric for more than 2 years, indeed for the whole run of 10-4 cars [1932-35] the engines have metric threads. I think others had a longer production life and WW2 finished the idea off. I think it is something to do with Morris' relationship with the French firm Hotchkiss. It is not so ea...

Re: SP 250 dual circuit breaks

I think dual braking is a worthwhile modification, having needed it on one occasion! So, to help, I have looked up in my Lucas book the part number for the various master cylinders you quote. It would be helpful to know the actual vehicles part when ordering as there are a few mods in the car's life...

Re: Does being in the EU affect Classic motoring?

And we still need passports, the others inside shengun need id cards [the same?] so what has changed?

Interesting comment on Nolans Radio 5 programme just now: "if Mr. Cameron really thinks BrExit could cause WW3 Why on earth did he give us a Referendum?"

YES, agreed, you are rignt, ........."We should be like the rest of Europe and take absolutely no bloody notice of the rules and just "Carry on" as that's the proper "British way" to do things!" But, as long as we are 'in' things will not change, and certainly won't cha...
