The DB18 saloon was also fitted with the anti roll bar.

Re: Daimler Sportsman pre-selector gearbox

If you convert the gearbox to an O/D box before you start I would definitely compare the back axle ratios of the 2 cars because they would almost certainly be different to account for different internal gearbox ratios.

Re: 1951 DB 18 Wilson gear box loose bushing

Well it’s not too much drama. If you decide to remove the output drive shaft it can be done in situ. Remove the prop shaft from the car and put it aside. Remove the gearbox output drive flange by removing its split pin and its retaining nut. Undo the 6 bolts retaining the driveshaft oil seal. Remove...

Re: 1951 DB 18 Wilson gear box loose bushing

No problem. This almost certainly is one of the two bushings that fit between the input driveshaft and the output drive shaft which means it was dislodged when the output driveshaft was removed in situ some time in the past. So here’s the bad news. You’ll need to remove the output driveshaft and che...

Re: LA10 Possible drag in Top Gear?

This sounds more like an engine related problem than the gearbox. I’d check the usual suspects like the ignition system, especially the timing and the carburettor settings.

Re: DB18 crank-hole-cover/cap PIC?

Your doubts are ill- founded! I have a complete grille with the cranking handle cover. I’m reluctant to separate the two, but I would if we can agree on a price. I’m thinking $160 for the cover including postage? It needs rechroming as you can see and the return spring is missing, but that’s no big ...

Re: Wanted fluid flywheel parts

The FF driven member shaft looks like it’s corroded. If it is then fitting a new lip seal would not be a good move because the seal’s lip would be damaged during running. You may be able to clean the shaft’s outer diameter in situ , but that may be a bit tricky. If you go down that track then fine, ...

Re: Conquest Century - "over assertive" gear engagement

The kick when engaging a gear from neutral is because the rotating running gears’ epicyclics plus the FF driven member must come to a halt pretty quickly - the same applies to automatic transmissions. To minimise that the engine needs to idle at the lowest practicable speed (about 400-500 RPM) so en...

Is it the 2 piece cast iron cylinder type you want? If you haven’t got one I may be able to help.

Re: Bolt sizes in the Spare Parts catalogue

I agree. The number of bolts and the variation in length certainly sounds like they’re talking about the gearbox bottom cover - definitely not the engine’s sump bolts, and the parts list on the same page is definitely referring to the gearbox.
