Re: Conquest Century Colours

Although I will stand corrected, black and white were never factory options. Black and silver-grey were - either black top or the reverse - as the body was designed for a definative break-line. I was told by the factory back in nineteen hundred and fast asleep that any bodyshells with damage were &q...

Re: Another Insurance Scam???

Usually, you can attend an "awareness" course locally - but if you were forced to travel 400 miles to attend one not at your own volition, you can sue the appropriate authority in the small claims court for your costs if your apprehension has been overturned. But back to insurance "sc...

Re: fitting a DYNATOR

The principle of the warning light wiring is that it requires a "feed" from the ignition circuit, and is "earthed" through the field windings of the dynamo. As soon as the field windings produce an output, the warning light has the same polarity either side - so cannot "eart...

Re: AC Petrol Gauge

Apparently, its the guage thats faulty, not the tank sender unit. There must be someone local to you who can have a look at it. It's a pity you are so far away - I'd do it whilst you wait!

Re: AC Petrol Jauge

I have just noticed that in your previous post you do not say you have checked the guage for continuity (i.e. put your meter across the guage terminals). I suggest you check that out next if you have not done so.

As I say, they rarely go wrong - and are very simple for a "home" repair.

Re: AC Petrol Jauge

So we're back to square one! It is the guage!! Next step is to remove the guage and "shake" it to see if the needle is stuck. The guage itself is in reality only a simple volt meter consisting of a winding betweem the two terminals which very rairly gives trouble. I suggest you carefully r...

Re: AC Petrol Jauge

How have you determined it is the fuel guage that is faulty? Did you "earth" the lead connected to the sender unit to the tank - which should cause the guage to read "full". If it did not - then check you have a live feed to the guauge. If you have - then "earth" the ot...

Re: Daimler 15 babbit work

Purely as a technical "follow-on" - I seem to recall from the dim and distant past that there is a limit (or possibly a mathematical ratio regarding bearing size) to the maximum thickness the white metal coating can be before it tends to "spread" under load. Or am I getting confu...

Re: Daimler 15 babbit work

I'll speak at length again to the M.D. of Chase Enginesm and assuming it could be arranged in principle, see what can be set up along the lines of a works visit and perhaps a technical seminar. In reality, its something of a "chicken and egg" situation - is it worth organising dependant up...
