Re: Breaking Daimler 15.

Thanks Stan, I do need the odd part for my 15 and have sent him a message, though at the price he has put those headlamps I am not holding my breath.

Is it me or is £1,000 for a pair that clearly need work and chrome more than a bit hefty?

Re: V8 250 rear springs

As Christopher says getting the springs out without a lift or inspection pit is a pig of a job lying under the car, personally I would never do it again, but then I am getting on now. The original springs can be dismantled and reset very successfully, though it is many years since I had it done. Re ...

Re: Lovely Lanchesters

Ranald, Without a doubt it is the auto lubrication header vessel, just looked at my 15 maintenance manual (as you know the Daimler 15 and some Lanchesters were close relations) and it shows yet another type of header unit, I know they used a tin one and at least three types of glass containers, so t...

Re: Steel finish

Rust cure stuff like Kurust will produce a reasonable finish on bare mild steel if left to dry and polished. You will have to repeat it when rust creeps through, which takes a fair time. Or give it a coat of mat clear varnish if you don't mind a bit of a sheen. Syd.

Re: Lovely Lanchesters

Christopher/Ranald. I am fairly certain the glass bottle is/was part of the automatic lubrication system, which is activated from the inlet manifold, there should be brake pipe type tubing running from the bottom of it to feed oil to the spring hangers/shackles etc. My Daimler 15 has a similar but l...

Re: V8 Saloon - too loud

Howard, I have almost the same set up as yours, though mine is a V8 250 manual overdrive. My engine was rebuilt by Russ Carpenter and a new stainless exhaust fitted about 12 years ago, before I bought the car. I had quite a lot of noise coming in when I bought the car, I found it was coming through ...

Looks like something similar on the right hand side on the flat surface under the wall display.

Wonderful link John.

Re: What is this?

I love this type of posting and at first thought this was a very old parallel rule for navigation, but on searching the net there is nothing like it for that purpose.

I recon it is as has been suggested an engineers instrument of some sort.

Re: Castor angle setting

Hope this is not wrong but are we getting mixed up between caster and camber here. As I recall caster is the angle of the front suspension top ball joint to lower ball joint relative to vertical and camber is the angle of the wheel relative to the road surface. Camber on an SP is adjusted by shims u...

Re: Body Removal

John. Some years ago I tackled an Austin 18 York, it had a similar but smaller body than the DE36, but the principle is the same. In my case I did take off the doors and everything else I could to cut down the lifted weight. The body had rotten ash every where and where it was not rotten, it had woo...
