Obsolete part remanufacture.

Post by Marcel Renshaw »

I asked the question some time ago what parts needed to be re manufactured and had very little response.
It was suggested Daimler EL24 heads, Lanchester 15/18 water pump bodies, and Sp250 water pump bodies could be investigated.
I was told the SP250 pump body was being sorted, The EL24 head also.
Out of interest if the club get any other parts made what is the thing that people cannot buy.
Surely these aren't the only parts that aren't available from the parts dealers.

Some nice 800 x 17 tyres would be nice. I can't be the only person with a DE model that would be interested. Callows Classics have two, there was a Windover 27 at Gaydon ann all have 800 x 17 tyres

Suggest King Pin Thrust Washers for a Lanchester LD10 which I believe came in a set of different washer thicknesses.
Possibly other Lanchester and Daimler models use similar.
Worth investigating.

As well as the King Pin Thrust Washers/Discs for the Lanchester LD10 suggest the following:
Locking Washers (with ear) securing wheel bearings on front hub
Bush for central steering pivot.
Inspection Cover Mats

Stainless steel LD10 bumpers would be useful, as would complete original pattern exhaust systems for the same.

Agree with Simon. LD10 Bumpers and original pattern Exhaust Systems would be nice.

EL24 heads are progressing with 2 possible suppliers.
The locking washers for LD10's are now available.
I still haven't heard anything about the SP250 water pump.
Tyres can be handmade in any size subject to minimum orders of around 40.
Are there any other items people are desperate for or would like?

How does one arrange to have a batch of tyres made? The tyres on a DE model should be 800 x 17 Dunlop Fort. Is it possible to have some made economically and easily? I know Michelin 7.50 x 17 exist but the proper size would be better.

There is a UK based company who can arrange the manufacture of tyres. The cost is based on the company making one days production of tyres by hand. This I am told is about 40 tyres.
The company I spoke to arranged the manufacture for the Daimler 35/120 range a few years ago.
The biggest job in getting the tyres made is getting the orders in.
The big question would have to be what people call economical.

Simon and Irving,

The last "Pattern" exhaust that Adrian Hanwell has, is out to be duplicated as we speak will let know supplier when and if Satisfactory copy is complete.

Overriders are at Scanning stage, and I am unsure about front and rear bumpers.
