Daimler 15 starting handle

Post by DW1900 »

I am looking for a starting handle for a 15 light 1935. There appears to many different types and sizes on a well know online auction site. Could somebody be good enough to post a picture of the end and overall length. Or even better has anybody got a spare one that I could purchase?

Thanks Dave W

Thanks Bob,

Very useful I did not have that configuration in my mind.

Kind regards

Hi, I have a starting Handle for a Lanchester Eleven , which is of the same design , but somewhat longer, if you are interested, I’ll take a picture so you can see if it will be of any use to you .

Cheers A’l :D

The type of handle supllied must have varied quite a bit over the years. The earliest cars with a starting handle hole like an inverted U must have a fairly plain design of handle but the later models have the supporting boss and guide that makes it go in easier. Although the car is 1935, I suspect a photo might be needed to positively identify exactly which handle is needed.
I seem to remember making a later handle years ago from a fairly plain starting point (sorry about the pun) and making the additional parts in aluminium turned down to the shape, cut in half and screwed together with countersunk screws into tapped holes on the other side. That made a readily available handle with the brass handle look and fit the part on a later car. Just a thought !

Well as it happens, Julian found a Starting Handle in with some parts that were included when he bought the Daimler.
So, I still have a Lanchester 11 Starting Handle for sale, get in touch if you require it.

Cheers A’l :D
