Conquest Starting Handle

Post by John Davis »

I forgot to say in the request below that I also need a starting handle - will make timing etc so much easier.

John,

I have one you could take a pattern from for the blacksmith.

I've often wondered, wouldn't any 50s starting handle fit most cars as long as their length is sufficient to protrude beyond the bumper when engaged into the crank pulley?

Yes, they are not a high tech item, and I can make one, but thought to save an afternoons work.
Other patterns are similar, needs to be about fourteen inches from dog to first bend, but the internal diameter of the dog is larger than Landrover, for instance, and the rod size is larger than BMC etc. Probably more like the Bentley Mk6 ones, but look at their prices!
So, into the workshop with the oxy-acetylene, then.

That's true my Daimler handles are thicker than my A90 handle.

Hi John

If you still need a Conquest starting handle I have two. Both are quite rusty but would probably clean up ok.

Hi Bakergh-

Yes , please I'd like one and I see somebody else is seeking one as well, so I won't be selfish and take both.
My number is 07900 988015 or leave yours and I'll ring you. Where are you? I travel about so could probably collect.

Thanks - John

Hi Bakergh -

I see you are in the New Forest - I often go to Ringwood so perhaps I can pick it up then - cash on collection.

Yours - JD
