Conquest Tank Unit

Post by theoldman »

Has anyone a spare Conquest tank unit to sell me please?

Mine's all over the place and on removal I found a) you can hear the wiper catching on the rheostat wires and b) It doesn't come to bits so you can mend it!!!

Thanks

Neil,

You may not want to go this way, but ... General Motors (US) pre-1963 sender units are electrically the same as the original Conquest units. They will fit a Conquest tank (barely) but require a bit of fiddling (5 vs 6 screw holes). I have successfully fit a GM unit in one of my cars.

Addendum for clarity - It is the DJ 250 that I put the GM sender unit in.

I am sure that David Beales can get them restored.

No, Chris, I'd rather not go that way - we tried it on the Austin Lorry and it was a bit of a disaster. Ended up fitting a DB18 unit!!!

Dennis - I can't see how it can be repaired as it doesn't come to pieces - it's ones solid unit. They must put in the innards and then weld it all up.

As a matter of interest what readings are you getting on the gauge Neil?

Totally erratic needle movement.

I know you will get a bit of a "swing" as the gauge is not damped, but mine goes from a reasonably correct reading, then to empty, then to full ad nauseam

Had it on the multi meter and the connection on the wiper to rheostat is poor (or non existent!) between 1/4 and 3/4
