Daimler Light 15 Engine Block
Daimler Light 15 Engine Block
We are currently rebuilding a Daimler Light 15 and require a new engine block to rebuild the engine . The original block is cracked internally and leaks coolant into the sump. Any suggestions / parts suppliers would be appreciated. Cliff
Re: Daimler Light 15 Engine Block
Hello Cliff,
I had the same problem with the engine block of my 1933 Daimler 15. The block has had serious cracks by frost damage. There was the option to repair the block by laser welding, which I did. Laser welding is a cold welding which don't bring heat in the material of cast of the engine block and so there'll be no deformation by heat.
There's specialised company in laser welding in my neighbouring place but this is unfortunately in Germany. If you can't find a good replacement block have a look in the UK for a company which is able to laser weld your cast iron engine block.
The foto shows the laser welded cracks and 53 laser welded drill holes which has been made by a former keeper, who has sealed the cracks by covering the damaged surface of the engine with a layer of aluminium sheet, a very large paper gasket and a lot of sealant, screwed with 53 counter sunk screws at the engine block.

Re: Daimler Light 15 Engine Block
Can you tell us which engine you have. They changed many times over a relatively short period.
I have remade a number of parts for the Daimler 15 and know a number of people with cars who might be able help with good second hand or new parts.
