upolstery, carpet, etc kit for sp250

Post by Dave Frazer »

My son David acquired an SP (A) several years ago and is planning restoration to original condition. He has contacted several sources for a 'kit' made here - prices are nearly as much as the complete car when new!
Surely there is someone in UK, New Zealand , or Australia that has/can at a more reasonable price supply leather, vinyl, wool in kit form to make car original again. Suggestions with phone and email appreciated.

Hello Dave,

Coverdale may be able to assist with carpets, although it looks as though they only do B&C spec - that said the company may have the drawings to hand for an A type; certainly worth a call.

John Skinner may be able to assist with trim as they cover Daimler's, BUT as for the SP I do not know and certainly not specifically listed.

Hi Dave.

I have an SP which was fitted with new kit carpets and upholstery when I bought it some years ago, they have not fared well, and turned out to be not very good quality, not sure where the previous owner bought them.

I did an 30's Austin York some years ago, dismantled the old seats used the old leather as templates, bought new hides cut new seat and door card profiles from the hide and had them made up by an upholsterer to fit.

I went to the local independent carpet shop and he helped me chose the right carpet for the job.

As I had no old carpet for patterns I used thick brown paper reinforced the edges with wide masking tap and cut patterns, cut out carpet shapes from the patterns and had them bound by the carpet shop.

Looked good and was great quality and relatively cheap to do. Syd

Barry Thorne supplied me with a full set of carpets a few years ago and they still look new.

Dave,

I'm not sure what side of the pond you are on. OSJI in Muncie, IN (USA) supplied the kit for my SP250 restoration. It wasn't cheap, but it was a complete, 100% original interior. In addition, the staff was very accommodating and helpful to work with. Here is a link:

Sports and classics in CT (USA) also sells interior kits (leather or vinyl). Here is a link:

Interior components can also always be found on eBay.

Good luck with the restoration.

In USA there are sellers who advertise on Ebay --- currently on ebay.

I have seen sellers on Ohio offer similar for under $300
