Hi Al
I bought a pair of S U carbs from an auto jumble many years ago although all I wanted was the float chamber lid . I have one intact which you are welcome to free of charge , H V 2 equates to a choke size of one and a quarter inch which this one is , although it could take a fortnight to reach you from Spain .
Regards David.

Hi David, great to hear from you , and I would very much like to take you up on your very kind offer.
Incidentally the mounting Flange on the HV2 is Horizontal , and the one I’m looking for has the Throttle linkage on your left hand side when facing it from the front, but that's not too important, as I can always fabricate a suitable Linkage if required .
Could you Email me please so that we are able to make suitable arrangements for delivery etc ?

Best wishes, and many thanks Alan :D

Hi Al, Looks like this is what you need, an HV2 AUC296 and like the HV4 the HV2 was fitted to some very exotic and rare motors, mostly in pairs, hence I guess the lack of response. Like so much these days, if you have a spare and a car that it fits, it is difficult to risk selling, in case the need should arise.

Not sure how the whole HV2 range varies but perhaps Burlens could help and they may be able to suggest which variation can be used on your engine. Syd

Or this chap might just have one, though his prices are a bit steep.

Hi Ranald, very close but the Flange on the Manifold side needs to be Horizontal rather than Vertical, I have got my eye on a couple on eBay, of a similar type to the one that you have just shown, but in much better condition.
The only problem, and not an insurmountable one by any means, is to get or make an adaptor to convert from Vertical to Horizontal. We shall see.........

Cheers Al 😊😊

Ps, I have tried to contact Vintagecarparts, but no reply as yet🙁

I started to write about making an adaptor plate from aluminium plate but realised the specifics will depend on your manifold and carburettor. The only slightly difficult part is allowing enough clearance for the four bolts, nuts or studs required to not catch on anything they shouldn't. The way I seem to remember I got round this was by using countersunk screws (BSF or BSW as appropriate) and using them flush fitting into the adaptor plate for the four fixings you would need, assuming the studs on the manifold can be removed. Tapping the plate the appropriate thread size is probably a good refinement for the carburettor side and you are left with the nuts at the carburettor facing you as the only visible fixings, pretty much as if they had been meant to be there.

I've just been having a look at some SUs and the ones I have to hand can all be readily converted from RH to LH accelerator operation or vice versa. You would probably get away with turning the throttle spindle round from side to side for the longer part to be on the correct side for you and I would think Burlen would have throttle stop levers of the opposite hand readily available. For ease of tuning and reliable trouble free operation, the horizontal SU has to be hard to beat as a mass market product.
