Re: Inflation
That link does not work. It came up with "Oops, page moved" or something similar

Re: Inflation
What sort of "Office" did you work in in 1968? IIRC £3000 was a relatively high salary and I would have thought that £1500 -£2000 would have been more realistic. I worked in Technical Sales at that time and got £1750 p.a.John-B wrote:I bought my Dart in 1968 for £280 when, as a just qualified office worker I was earning about £3,000 pa.
If I was working now with the same just qualified status I might expect £30,000pa so the car would be £2,800 for the same nine year old, 150,000 mile condition, driveable but worn out, but in fact it would now be worth about £8,000.

Re: Inflation
You were lucky.....
I was a Cadet with P&O and was being paid £14/2/6 per month!
Even £280 was too much.
Cheers

Re: Inflation
To be honest, I can't remember. When I left school in 1960 I earned £152 pa but I had reasonably high increases every year, in 1974 I earned £4000, so in 1968 you may be right that £2000 was more realistic, which just makes the current theoretical price for a nine year old, 150,000 mile SP250 at £8,000 seem quite inflated.KV8 wrote: What sort of "Office" did you work in in 1968?
