The old forum seems to crash regularly. I don't know if it resets itself automatically or if someone has to do it.

Perhaps rileyrm has locked himself out

As far as making it Read Only is concerned, bakerp is the only one who can do that and he's been out of contact recently.

Hi Guys, sorry work has been very busy and I've recently been away in an area with no internet connectivity.

With regards to the header image, this was never meant to be permanent, it's taken directly from the DLOC website and was only used to provide a "look and feel".

We can certainly update it with a new image and perhaps change them every month, it would be good to retain the elements currently present with the DLOC logo and red stripe. I think we can lose the "DLOC Forum" text though.

The old forum went down on Sunday as it usually does, it's back up now but I will be setting it to "read only" very shortly along with re-directing the URL.

I'll have a look at the code change for opening links in a new tab.

All links going forwards should now open in a new tab
Images should now work in the added "lightbox" extension which provides a cleaner view of uploaded photos

Let us know how you get on

Thanks

I've already played around with a few alternatives as I was going to put them up for approval soon. Click on a photo to see it larger in the Lightbox and use the left and right arrows to scroll them (provided you have JavaScript/ActiveX enabled).

The text on the photos will be better when the headers are full width, and I could make it a bit larger. The red stripe and logo can be added to most of them unless it spoils the photo.

I've got a few more. All my images are from Wikimedia Commons which are copyright-free, except for photos which are from members and already posted on this forum.

thanks John, some great images there, I think we should put this to a vote and perhaps rotate on a monthly basis from submissions?

Chris_R wrote:I suppose in that case the administrator of the other forum must have changed the style, it doesn't display that line, even on the prosilver style. It's difficult, I don't want to suggest turning this forum into a clone of another one (unless that is what people would like), if all forums were the same it would be boring.

As the forum gathers momentum and posts increase it's not unusual to expect some fine tuning to be required to certain aspects;

The current theme was chosen as it provided the closest "look and feel" according to a few early test subjects, giving the choice to choose a different theme to the user has the potential to cause issues for those less "I.T. literate" and may confuse, it may also cause issues going forwards if certain aspects of the site have been fine tuned to work with a certain theme as the settings may not translate across several themes or further work may be required to implement simple solutions.

The "ebay" links sub-forum was chosen to provide links to cars found for sale on ebay and other locations that were not for sale by the poster, to try and create a divide between items posted for sale by members and those for sale from a third party. As can be seen this is now modified but perhaps could be trimmed further?
