Mystery Car badge.

Post by Sydsmith »

This came with one of those job lot boxes bought at auction which had something I wanted. Amongst the rest was this car badge.

I have tried Googling it and shown it to several knowledgeable folks but without luck, wondered if someone here might know what it is?

Singer, look at the image on the right of wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singer_Motors

Anyone seen a Singer recently? There can't be many of them.

Interesting theories, thanks for the contribution.

This looks like it was a radiator cap mascot and the second example is a badge bar version.

The Singer motif and the owners club motif are very different and there is nothing on the public side of their forum which suggests this is Singer.

Dave P suggested Studebaker, thanks Dave, but again their motif is very different.

Both my badge and the second example are clearly some years old, I have had mine 30 years and it was old then so I suspect pre-war.

Could it be a motif from an old motoring club.

Still scratching my head.

Font of all knowledge and guru, Dave P has come up with the definitive solution, seems it is the Sprite Caravan Company motif, which is now part of Sterling Caravan Owners club https://sterlingowners.wordpress.com/

Their motif is clearly the same as my badge, so mystery solved :D Thanks for the input folks.

That would date it to the 1950's, I really don't think that caravan manufacturers would go to that much trouble, anyway caravans leak most of the time so a badge like that would only add more holes in the bodywork :D
Owner since the 70's, Genghis is slightly to my left.
