Is it possible for those that run this forum to add a "Thanks" link to posts? I am a member of another motoring forum and it's possible for members to read a post placed by someone else and click a "Thank You" link to enable them to voice their appreciation of the answer(s) to the original question or post

This phpBB forum is quite basic, and free, and doesn't have an option for "Thanks" as far as I know. Edit: there is an add-on in development, it started in 2014 and isn't ready yet! 69 pages of posts so far! https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewforum.php?f=456

However, another forum I visit has addressed this problem and the founder has coded a Thanks option, which is very detailed. You click on a hand symbol and Thanks are recorded for the giver and the receiver, and you can see the log for each person. I notice that the hand symbol only appears on other people's posts on a topic that you started. You can't Thank on someone else's topic, but that's just the way he coded it. However, Stooz is a competent coder and I wouldn't attempt it myself. Anyway, he will have copyright as he amended a Thanks system from some other forum. If you look at this page, Gryffron's post shows on the right how many times he has thanked and been thanked: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 8&start=20 (you might have to login as a member to see it.)

A disadvantage is that when upgrading the forum to a new version, all the code edits will have to be remembered and inserted in the new version. I notice that he hasn't upgraded the phpBB version used for that forum! This other forum used to be the UK version of The Motley Fool, but like our earlier forum, it got massively out of date and was ended, so Stooz and one other person started with the basic phpBB (not using the we_universal theme we use) and amended it heavily in several ways. I'd prefer to keep this forum reasonably simple as I'm not an IT specialist, although we have added tested add-ons, for instance, Lightbox to enlarge images.
