Any bikers out there?

Post by Phillmore »

Just wondered whether anyone rides motorbikes as well as Daimlers/Lanchesters. I'm looking to get a new (retro) Triumph Street Scrambler a la Steve McQueen in The Great Escape (although I'm not planning on being quite so adventurous off road)!

Still got six bikes ranging from a 1928 AJS to a Honda CB750 - and I'm 81 come this June.

Had a number of Triumphs, including a Sprint ST which I sold a few years ago.

I used to have quite a few old British bikes Stan (Triumphs, Enfields, BSAs etc) but just got a Hinkley Trident and a DMW Deemster now. I do like the look of the Street Scrambler though and it's very difficult to resist! I think their attention to detail regarding the heritage of the old Triumphs combined with state of the art design and engineering is very clever.

When I had my 2015 tinkley-hinkley triumph, I turned the brake pads round so it was metal-to-metal to reduce braking - took the cam box gaskets off so it peed oil everywhere, and removed one of the plug leads so the vibration shook your dentures out - - and hey presto - it was then just like a 1960's Meriden Triumph!

Then I rode with a flat back tyre to replicate the handling - Ah, nostagia aint what it used to be!

Don't forget the blackout covers on the lights Stan to simulate the Lucas prince of darkness electrics! Joking apart my Enfield Bullet was a good reliable bike and smooth (engine dynamically balanced as all Enfields were).
