Re: Oh to be a time traveller !!
I imagine the amount of items seen on the auction day was quite bewildering, to say the least !!
The printed auctioneers sale guide, must also have made very interesting reading.
Doubt you will ever see the like of that again, covering our vehicles.
Regards.
Richard.

Re: Oh to be a time traveller !!
David Farrar was a long time member and great supporter of the club, indeed there is a David Farrar Trophy.
If I said he was a little eccentric I don’t think too many would disagree. That said we’re all a little eccentric having these old cars as hobbies, may as well set fire to bundles of £20 notes!

Especially the 1929 Datmler Double Six Limousine.
Not many Datmlers made.
Now if it was 1929 Daimler Double Six Limousine they are as rare as hen's teeth found in some rocking horse poo. I read somewhere (and can't find where) that there were only 9 of these made.
Stan Thomas may know.

Re: Oh to be a time traveller !!
Hi Graham,
'Fraid I don't actually know the whereabouts of any "double-Sixes" in captivity, although there was a saloon on a trailer at the Rally some years back at Gaydon. If ever you get the chance, look at a parts catalogue for a double-six engine - they were truly awesome, and unbelievably complex - and yet they made so comparatively few.
Things are very quiet here with little traffic - in fact, so quiet, my daughter actually reached 70mph on the M6 going to work in Walsall this morning!!

Re: Oh to be a time traveller !!
I read in my A-Z of Cars of the 1920s that there was under 500 Double-Six made in 2 sizes. The "50" at 7136cc and the "30" at 3744cc, both sleeve valve.
Europe's first production V12, each bank of cylinders had its own cooling, carburettor and dual ignition system. A "50" chassis was £1,950 and the "30" chassis £1,000

The car on a trailer at Gaydon was a member from the Czech Republic, I’ll look out the photos.
