Forum Header image

Post by John-B »

I've changed the forum header image. At present it varies every eight seconds to show you what photos I have so far. The info and copyright details are here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=12&start=90

NOTE: it doesn't shrink on a narrow screen, so use landscape position on a mobile phone to see the header's full width.

Do you want it to continue as a selection?
Is the interval between photos of eight seconds OK?
If I continue with a selection, should there be a theme when the header is changed, like military vehicles, commercial vehicles, just Lanchester, etc. ?
Should there be just one header photo at a time?
If so, how often should the header photo change? Every week, month, six months?

If you have photos you would like incorporated, add below but I will have to crop them to the correct size and add titles.

Yes I like it John.

6/8 seconds fine and keep it random would be my suggestion. Looks good

The only problem is that all these concourse cars are making my cars feel inadequate! Feel free to show some ropey examples as well (or as I prefer to call it - patina)

I've got to be honest - I find it distracting ( I have the same problem with the new SP site). I think this is partly because the images are heavily cropped and I keep trying to work out what the rest of it would be. A change of scenery is always welcome, but once a day would be fine with me.

I did try to avoid cropping, but because the header is very wide compared with its depth, if I include a whole car the header would look like this:

unless the image is stretched; I did stretch the drag racer a little, but not enough to notice.

I've just thought that I could leave the photo in the middle like above and fill in the sides with descriptive text. It looks a bit odd but might be useful to show the source of the photo:

There is a battered BSA in the mix. Is your car a suitable wreck?

I do understand the constraints you've had to work under John - and given those, the result is very good. I do find though my attention being drawn away from the post I'm reading (or writing) each time the picture changes. Subconsciously I find my self scrolling down the page to remove the header so I can concentrate. As I said, I like the idea, but I'd prefer a change rate of a different pic each day rather than every few seconds.

I'll probably settle for one image at a time soon.

I have admit to not noticing until I looked at this thread, (tunnel vision?) perhaps because as soon as you scroll down you can't see the picture.

Yes I like it. Keep it random.

Nick.
