Graham I think it was bid to £11,500 but may have been unsold.
The sound system in the hall is hard to follow!

Hi Ron,
Originally it was up with a DB18 from the same owner but that seems to have been withdrawn.
£11,500 seems a fair price to me for a car with no spares supplies 😳

Yes Graham I agree with you on that, the estimate was 12,000/1500 but we will wait and see the results to confirm
the outcome. If I had the space for it I might have been tempted!

There are spares for EL24s, just as there are for most pre-war cars, but it isn't as easy as looking up a David Manners catalogue and ordering online. Unlike say a RR 20/25, there are plenty of things on an EL24 that are not bespoke to the model, including instruments and the electrical system, which is all good Smiths or Lucas stuff. And again like most pre-war cars, things were designed to be repaired rather than replaced, so there are any number of specialists out there who can repair various items. Engines, wheels, gearboxes etc etc can all be done. Tyres are available in several brands. Bodywork can be repaired, albeit at a price. It is only really the cylinder heads that have caused issues, and even then some of them can be repaired. Really though it is no harder to look after an EL24 than for many other long gone pre-war cars.

I think £11500 was about right for this particular car. Sadly ignorance of the marque and fear of the preselector box is what puts most people off a pre-war Daimler.

I'm happy it puts them off Mark, keeps the prices reasonable. Just think if something like the DB18 had a Jaguar badge we'd be paying double the money!

EL24 definitely remains for sale.
This has been confirmed to me this morning by Michelle Wotherspoon, Assistant Auction Manager at Morris Leslie.
