Ben Mason, Balfour Mews, Lower Edmonton, UK

Post by John-B »

Has anyone got a photo of Ben Mason or his garage at Balfour Mews, Lower Edmonton, London? He did so much for me and Daimler owners that I'd like to see some photos.

I remember leaving Lower Edmonton Station, turning right and walking down the main road and then into Bridge Street and Balfour Mews where Ben had probably left my Dart outside with the keys under the front wheel if I turned up at lunchtime on a Saturday from Bristol, or later after work when I worked in London. Google shows the station as Edmonton Green, but I remember it as Lower Edmonton. Perhaps my memory is failing. Edit: just found this:
Edmonton was renamed Lower Edmonton (high level) on 1 July 1883, with the suffix being dropped when the low level station closed.[3] The name of Edmonton Green was adopted in 1992 as being more indicative of the area served and to promote the nearby Edmonton Green Shopping Centre.
So it was called Lower Edmonton in 1968 to 1973 when I used it.

Google Maps street view stops in Bridge Street. I think Ben's garage was on the right in Balfour Mews, probably the large roof shown on the corner of Bridge Street and Balfour Mews in the street view. I remember a typical back street garage with hundreds of small items hanging on nails from timber joists.

I got parts from him for the Majestic Majors I had at the time. It was convenient as I was living in Muswell Hill. Do you remember Mrs Rice who worked in the office? Ben was always very helpful. His mechanic was Roy Eldridge.

Hi,
I should have some photos of Ben Masons yard which I took in the late 70ˋs.
If I find them I will send them to you.I am not able to post them here.
I can remember a lot of lock up garages with parts and plenty of Daimlers in the yard.

I remember the gearbox in my Empress being faulty in 1977. I rang Masons who asked me to take it over to them. It came out very easy with front seats and part of floor removed. I took it to London and it was reconditioned within a couple of weeks. I collected it and the price was £80
