TAMAR BRIDGE - SPOTLIGHT NEWS 19/10/18

Post by AntonyB »

I was watching Spotllight news this evening and they had an item on the Tamar Bridge (costs of crossing etc.) and used as part of the item a Pathe News clip of when it opened in 1962, the clip included a smart convertible Daimler with a caravan attached . I did a search for Pathe News and came across the clip though could only see part of the side, a further search of associated clips has the following (no sound on this clip which is no hardship) and a nice shot of the Daimler and caravan appears at about 0.58.

No doubt someone will be able to name the precise model, know if the car itself still exists and what the make of caravan is/was, I have not explored any further.

Yes, it is LXY427, after the last reply I looked at the clip again and tried the 'view as stills' option and that produces a very good and sharp series of individual frame shots which are very good (other that having the copyright logo over the top) and far easier to the read the number plate than by trying to stop the video play.

Lovely DBSS which was probably only 10 years old at the time. Same colours as mine was - like a Guinness label. (LLJ 327, now maroon)
Odd video without sound which makes the man with beard even more intense.
