Neil, couple more posts on ATDC forum tonight.

One contributor suggests stripping the wheel back to bare metal and polishing it to the best finish possible, then spray with 6-7 coats of black epoxy paint, then polish with colour restorer polish.

Second suggestion is the same prep but coat with several coats of gloss Plastico.

Not sure how either of these systems would work but with Austin tens not making that much money, the spray paint method has been used with some success apparently quite frequently.
