I can't recall whether i have asked this before (it's me age, yer see!)
The handbrake has what seems to be a totally puzzling problem. It is the Girling type where the rods pull a wedge through the unit and two little discs then move against the actuators which act on the end of the brake shoe and hence put the brake on.
The problem is, the mechanism won't return, despite HUGE springs on the brake shoes.
If one takes the drum off, it works perfectly. As soon as the drum goes on.....it then needs a sharp tug on the rod to let the brake off (not too convenient!)
I have tried all i can think of. I've had the mechanisms to pieces, cleaned them (both sides have the same problem) , put it all back together with quality grease and had the compensator off and done the same, not that it has anything to do with the problem as it just sits there "slack" with the wheel units jammed.
I'm getting frustrated so any help would be appreciated.
Ps - the footbrake works fine (hydraulic on the 104)

There was a lengthy article on the subject of the 104 handbrake within the last couple of years.
I don't remember whether it was in the DM or on the old forum.
Have you seen this?

Here is when we discussed same issue last April, Neil hope it helps, I cant assist as the Regency handbrake is similar to the DB18 (pistol grip under dash)
