Admiral Car Insurance

Post by Hoss »

Does anyone have experience of insuring a classic car with Admiral Insurance? or indeed claims experience with them.
I initially called them for a quote on my modern. They then quoted to insure both at premiums that are very good! (I know that if something seems to be to good to be true then it probably is!)
Many thanks
Hoss

I was insured with Admiral on my every day car, they increased the premiums so much that I shopped around and got a quote over £100 less with Hastings Direct.
The quote for my V8 250 from Footman James, who I had been with for 10 years also increased. So again I shopped around and found that I could get a £65.00 reduction with Peter James.
So shop around for the best deal

There is no doubt Insurance companies take advantage of the fact that most of us do not change our insurance provider every year and they load premiums, often only by a few percent every year, but it adds up year on year.

When you get good service from an insurer and have a helpful and friendly person on the other end of the phone you feel reluctant to move but that reluctance can get very expensive, that goes for all insurance.

Just by shopping around our house insurance cost over £150 less this year. We were with the same company two years ago and they charged us £200 more then than we paid them this year.

The difference is often as in our case with house insurance, if you leave a company and go to a new one you get and "introductory discount" or "new customer discount" so just by moving between two known companies year on year you usually get 10-15% discount from the standard premium.

I have a good experience so far with insuring 2 Range Rovers with Admiral on a multicar Classic Car Policy. Both are 1st generation "classic" Range Rovers, one a '93 and the other one of the very last from 1995. With Admiral a car over 21 years old can qualify for their Classic Car Discount. The prices quoted have been exceptionally good value for money and they have agreed the valuations that I placed on the two cars. Furthermore, the agreed value is more of a guideline apparently. So far, no claims experience and long may this continue.

I'm not sure to be honest. It was a bit complex in my case because I was bringing a second car in part way through the year of the first car and swapping cover around so my son can drive the second one instead of the 1st one which he was already covered on, insuring one for a year and negotiating a 6 month renewal in June for the other so that both insurances are date aligned from next January. Doing an agreed value on the second and getting a significantly higher revaluation on the first only 6 months after the 1st valuation! Plus the process was complicated by a minor fault in their system that accepted the 1995 car for the Classic Car Discount but did not accept the 1993 model of the same car. That had to be fixed.
I found the sales team, who are UK based, exceptionally helpful and pleasant to deal with. Also the valuation team are very good, seem to be quite knowledgable and very helpful. Try them, you can't lose anything except a bit of time.

Hate to say it, but I`m one of the dead lazy ones! However, rather than just sitting back and sticking with the same company year after year, I have put ALL my insurance (house, contents, four cars, etc) with a broker I trust. They shop around on my behalf, and most years get a deal which is at least as good, if not better, than before.
In addition, if there should be a claim, they act on my behalf.
PS I should have said that one car has an agreed value, and one is a rather high performance machine - but they sort out everything on my behalf!

Used to be with Admiral.
They kept increasng the premium on our trolley (basic Pug 205) so I left and moved rather randomly to Swinton.
Also had my modified Landy with Admiral, same story except that I moved over to Adrian Flux.
My current classic is with Hagerty, but that has not yet renewed.

I would always choose a classic specialist for a classic car. If the worst happens and it gets demolished they will probably handle the claim in an appropriate manner, while an insurer selected on the basis of price probably will not.
