Temperature sender

Post by New Dexter »

Having passed its test I was able to use my vehicle at the weekend. However, on the five mile journey to the test station I noticed that the temperature gauge was showing the needle at the bottom of the red section. No sign of boiling up, no gurgling from the radiator but I didn't remove the cap.
On Sunday I went for a 50 mile round trip and on the outbound and inbound journeys the same problem arose. I have checked the gauge and it responds to electrical power. How do I check the sender? I have found them notoriously difficult to remove at times. I have considered warming up the metal around the sender to make it easier to remove but will I need to do this at all?

Electric senders are notoriously inaccurate.

I've tried 2 on the Rover 2000 when the original failed completely.

One shows at the bottom of the green at normal running temperature, whilst the other sits at the top of the green.

Tests with the thermal tape show the engine to be running at exactly 85 degrees.................................
Normal for Norfolk
