Put a smile on your face cars

Post by Phillmore »

Those cars that put a smile on your face when you drive down the road. You probably can't put your finger on why and they may not be fast, valuable or glamorous but there is just something about their character that makes them so endearing!

Mine was my 1967 Austin A40 Farina Mk2. It was tatty, brush painted, totally dependable, economical and my daily transport for over five years until some pikey nicked it!

Any more smiley cars?
Andy

Renault 750, a real buzz-bomb with a smiley face.

1015cc Citroën GS Estate. Hydropneumatic suspension, power brakes and the best riding car I've ever owned. That little aircooled flat-four was turbine smooth, unlike the later 1222cc GSA which I also had - more powerful but much coarser. I always revelled in the typically idiosyncratic Citroën controls and I'm sure I had a smile on my face every trip.

Front wheel drive and super-skinny 145/15 Michelins meant it would climb the side of a house if necessary, and it never failed to complete a journey in snow, ice or deluge - unlike my modern fat, wide, low-profile tyred rear-wheel drive pussies.

Very fond memories!

The original Fiat 500. We had one for a while about 1986 vintage, what a brilliant nippy little car for town work. Used to run on fumes and park in the smallest of spaces.
