Classic car insurance

Post by Dave Glyde »

Having finally got the car to 98% done I need to get it insured. I know on the old forum there is probably lots of threads on the subject but as its not available at the moment any recommendations on which company / broker to use or are they all pretty much the same?

Dave,

I find Peter James very helpful and VERY reasonably priced.

I am happy with using Adrian Flux.
The main thing is to try a few. It may be very boring but the price difference is always a surprise.
Colin,
I may be slow but I’m rough as well !

I use RH insurance https://www.rhspecialistinsurance.co.uk/ and but haven't needed to make a claim, so I can't comment on their response to claims.

We have our Railway Austin Lorry with Flux - they were the only ones who would do "any driver over 25" on a Classic Policy, but I find they are relatively expensive.

Hi
I am with Peter James who insures my 6 cars including 2 modernish ones on one policy with 4 agreed valuations. I have not had a claim but recently changed my modern car and they were very good at insuring 7 cars and later reducing it to 6. I have 3 named drivers, unlimited mileage, breakdown cover including continental and comprehensive european cover.
Can't recommend them enough.
regards
Colin

Like Colin we also have a "family fleet" policy, ours is with with Heritage (Norton Insurance in Birmingham). Originally it was for 3 Daimlers and 3 moderns, but having been retired for some years we've recently sold two of the moderns (a 2002 Jaguar S Type R and a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi V8) and replaced them with one brand new modern (one of the last Skoda Superb 3.6 VR6 4x4 Estates to be imported).

Incidentally the Skoda is astonishing value and surprisingly combines all of the virtues of the other two with none of their drawbacks. (Almost as fast as the S Type with equivalent ride and handling, as big as the Jeep inside with far better economy, and more reliable than either).

No claims so far, 4 named drivers, reasonable mileages and agreed values on the Daimlers, very reasonable cost and changes managed immediately through one gentleman at Norton who is extremely efficient; it's a bit like personal banking through a named representative. Altogether it is outstanding compared to any previous car insurance arrangement in terms of cost and efficiency, including several of the above named; I recommend Norton totally.

Regards

Geoff

I'm also with Norton and second what Geoff says about them. Also been with Flux on several occasions, but apart from a good introductory price, I've always found their renewals to be expensive, and their customer service poor.

So is there a genuine cost saving with a multi-classic policy over insuring them individually?

Many thanks chaps for all your replies. I started at the top and called Peter James. Spoke with a very nice young chap who having taken all my details came back with £99 for fully comp, agreed £12,000 valuation, unlimited mileage, legal protection and breakdown recovery. As with all insurance you don't know if you have value for money until there's a claim situation. Can only say they were extremely helpful and friendly and so I didn't get as far as calling the other three recommendations I'm afraid.

Many thanks again to all
