That's an interesting article.
"Nick - do you think you will ever put that old car back together again?"

...and a bit more via DaveP...................

"And now for something completely useless: This bus went to West Bromwich Corporation in 1949.......but was never used! In 1952, it was returned to Daimler for the chassis to be lengthened, and the seating capacity raised to 38. The coachwork is by Metro-Cammell, and one would presume that as the bus was lengthened before being used in anger, that the original body was altered at this stage as necessary, rather than being replaced.

I suppose the chassis alterations were not that uncommon; look how many Bristol Ls became LLs later in life, but it still does not explain why the bus was stored for the first three years?"

I'm so glad that people do this sort of thing. Some history preserved.

I can answer that :-

"The chassis FEA156 was built in 1948, but due to pressure of work at Metro-Cammell the bodies were not ready until 1952 When the chassis was lengthened and bodied. By then, of course, under floor engined saloons were almost ubiquitous, so they seemed old even when new."

Type of Vehicle - Single Deck Bus
Year Built/Registered - 1 March 1952
Body - Metropolitan Cammell Carriage & Wagon Co Ltd
Chassis - Daimler CVG 5
Reg No. - FEA 156
Fleet No. - 156
Livery/Operator - West Bromwich Corporation

No, Darren, not the body number, the body type.

B = Bus
38 - Seating Capacity
R - Rear Entrance.

Another, for example is Colin's Daimler CV- that's a "H40/32F"

H - High Bridge Decker
40/32 - Seating Capacity Upper/Lower
F - Front entrance.

B = Bus
C = Coach
DP = Dual Purpose
H = Highbridge Decker
L - Lowbridge Decker

Seating capacity (Split for Deckers usually)

R = Rear Entrance
F = Front Entrance
D = Dual Entrance
D after R = Platform Doors (as in H30/26RD, or L28/26RD)

Yes, I know, I should get out more......................
