"Effect" of heat on Daimler V8

Hi

I live near to Cambridge where the all time July record temperature was recorded yesterday afternoon. At that time i was working in my garage on my other classic car. Suddenly a loud "clang"!. I immediately investigated and found that the rear number plate of the Daimler had fallen off onto the concrete garage floor. It had been stuck on by a PO using two sided sticky tape! The temperature had softened the sticky medium to virtually a fluid! I have owned the car for nearly 5 years and taken it out on many pretty hot but obviously not as hot days. Thinks - must find out how it should be attached - its not obvious.

Regards

H

I do not know if this is the correct factory fitment but this is how mine is secured, may be of assistance.

Presume we are speaking of a V8-250.

Many thanks. Mine is a 1966 V8 but that does not appear to make any difference in this context. There are no holes in the number plate or the mounting area behind. My number plate fits in the defined area with about 20mm all round not a full fit as per your photo. This number plate fitted by the PO would almost certainly have been the first UK number plate fitted as registration until 2012 was Auckland New Zealand,

There appears to be remains of a much higher duty adhesive in certain areas behind the number plate.

BTW it now appears we were hottest ever in UK yesterday, BTW also same colour - nice!
