Odhams motor manual

Post by Phillmore »

Just found my copy of this in the loft and it makes very interesting reading. My copy is 1949 and covers how all parts of the car work, maintenance and repair and many interesting period pictures and diagrams.

A couple of interesting quotes from the book:

Pre-selector - "when such devices become standard on all motor cars, much of the mechanical work of driving will be unnecessary. At present, however, advanced gearboxes of this and similar design are the exception rather than the rule".

It goes on to explain how they work and how they can be adjusted.

Storing the car (carpets and mats) - "Beware of moths, this warning also applies to any upholstery other than leather and Rexine. Shake out carpets and mats and apply D.D.T powder to discourage moths and other insects."

The book covers all aspects of car ownership in the forties and fifties periods in great detail. Still available on Amazon if you haven't got a copy.
