Started restoration

Well Guys,
Inadvertantly started the restoration of the 1954 conquest century.
Started by removing the wings to see how bad they were, but cant stop now. 1st one stripped. Had loads of filler on it, which of course hides a multitude of sins. To my amazement its actually very solid, just the usual seam corroded away and plated over (badly, Hence the filler !) also corroded at the front edge but plated behind.
This is what we have to start with
1st wing stripped
Strip the other wing over the next couple of days then start removing the doors
Had the car running but only 1/2 exhaust yet.
Will post more pictures and progress as we go along

Hi Norman.
Would love it...PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME !
really would like to put the seams back. I was trying to find details so I could sort it. I have a spot welder which may make things easier.

Took the welded plate off the wing to find the dreaded tin worm had been hard at work. So we decided to split in two at the seam, cut out the rot and fabricate and inlay a new piece.
To be continued .....

Well done Stuart.
Not enough people doing proper restorations these days, especially on the older saloons.

Wow Stuart, what a pace you work at, takes a lot of courage and commitment to take a car back to that state and a lot more to repair and put it back together and get it on the road, I have been there, great work. Good luck with the rest of the project. Syd

Thanks for the words of encouragement Syd.
Get on well due to the help of my mate Daz...Dont know where I'd get to without his help. We tend to do 2 - 3 hours on a friday night and just get stuck in. Boys (tongue in cheek) night out !
Keep you all posted as time goes on.
Also will keep an album of photos to show the restoration in detail.

It's great to have a mate help. My mate John and I have been restoring for 30 years. Pretty well every Saturday.
It's a lonely life doing it solo. Look forward to seeing the car when it's finished.
Cheers Keith
