Up until a couple of years ago the DVLA would provide previous ownership history but sadly due to GDPR regulations they are not permitted to do this anymore.

Yes i have a set but only for cars on DVLA which Davids is not as his registration is no longer a recorded number.

Quick update..

I have now visited the Wakefield Archive.

The Register exists, and shows that only 1 plate was issued to Appleyards in the series OUA with a 3 as the first number, that is for sure OUA3.

That means the Appleyards publicity photo (seen in the Daimer Books) is OUA3.

The original index card is not present (only a reference to a Hillman in 1977), so no way to check type of car or Chassis/Engine Number.

(interestingly OUA4 was also issued to Appleyards, and the original card is in place, showing Chassi and Engine Number etc.

Looks like a dead-end

Next step is to look at the second registration plate - 952YWC.

Can Chris/Pete confirm why they thought this was a Sheffield Registration - I have a mail today from Sheffield Archive saying they think its an Essex Registration,
so I wanted a source to go back to Sheffield and ask them to check again.

Thanks

db

I have been using an online web page of registration marks https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registr ... etters.htm and here it indicates Sheffield for WC (2nd & 3rd letters) which is what I gave the answer as before.
After your last post I consulted my library of vintage observer books and curiously the 1962 & 1963 editions does not list WC at all. WA and WB are listed as Sheffield. WD as Warwick and WE again as Sheffield.
The 1964 edition then has WC as Essex, as has the 1965 and 1966 editions.
Seems the online resource may be wrong for this series.

Chris have copied and pasted to David and spoke on the phone, yes we both are on the same site so he can now email Sheffield with the proof.
Guess we could be wrong but think it maybe we are correct they need to look .
