I would rather call these Consorts as the DB18 in my opinion is a much better car as own both models. Amazing prices though.

John, that's an interesting observation, that you feel the original to be superior to the revised model. Why do you say so?
Only having the 'strict' myself I've always wanted the Consorts brakes!

Hi Graham, the older version in my opinion is superior as the Consort was made a cheaper to save money, firstly no sunroof, to work on the engine not easy as the DB18 bonnet open down to the bottom of the engine. On the Consort the carb is hidden by the body work. The radiator cap is false as the DB18 has the big chrome cap. The rear window blind has gone Then for good measure the interior light goes from one to 2. The windscreen screen opening has gone which is nice on hot days.
I just feel Daimler said lets cut costs on the Consort.

Thank you John for the details on the difference between the two models. Despite a lifelong fascination with Daimlers all those differences passed me by until now.
Where did the expression 'strict' come from?
I first saw it when I joined the DLOC and it was used by a fellow called Vivian Boyd-Carpenter who was a luminary of the Club at that time.

"Strict" is more usually applied to the Conquest range, to differentiate between the 75bhp Conquest and the 100bhp Conquest Century.

The 75bhp model was termed a "strict" Conquest.

Quite correct Neil, but it's a useful term to differentiate between the two DB18 saloons. (Although there's also DB18/1 and DB18/2 - so I guess the Consort should be DB18/3?)

I love my opening windscreen which I call the 'air conditioning'!
I also call the supposed brakes my 'retardation system' - to be used in conjunction with rapid changes down the gearbox and finaly into neutral to bring it to a stop.
