Hi Graham,

The auctioneers estimate appears to be rather low - especially from our earlier correspondence when I got the impression a lot of mechanical work had been undertaken on the car - including the engine. I suppose it depends upon whether or not you want a sleeve valve!

Could be a good buy though, as I have mixed feelings whether it is a wise thing to put a specialist car such as this in an "art & antique" auction, which might not have a sufficiently interested audience to create enthusiastic bidding, and further in this case, I have not seen any media advertising for the car as you would otherwise get from the specialists like Bonhams, A.C.A. and H & H etc.

Still we shall see - and lets hope it does not finish up as a donor wedding car with a BMW-Toyonissan engine transplant!. .................................

As I somewhat regrettably predicted, the car only fetched £13K at auction, which means the vendors will just about clear ten grand after commission and VAT are paid.

So we must now wait and see where and when it emerges, hopefully with an enthusiastic Club Member given sleeve valves are getting somewhat thinner on the ground as time goes by - or at what price if it has been acquired by the trade.

Our vehicles just don’t attract their real value in money terms

Sad thing is that the number could be worth £3-4-5,000 or more, that makes the car worth a poultry £8-10,000, what a lot of car for so little money.

I can appreciate that engine could be a bit of a challenge, but it is also a great thing to own, something very different.

What a looker, what a bargain, I discounted it as I thought it would have gone for well over £20k. Wish I had taken more interest now.

As you say Stan, I do hope the buyer is an enthusiast not a quick buck merchant.

I can now tell you I gave the auctioneers some prior info regarding sleeve valve cars - and requested they pass my details to whoever purchased it so they could contact me if sleeve valves were completely new to them.

In that way, I thought I might have an in-road to keeping tabs on the car and introduce them to The Club. Pity the auction was so far away, otherwise I would have attended.
