1969 Daimler V8-250 saloon

Post by classiclife »

Hello,

On behalf of one of my East Sussex DLOC members, he has asked if I would flag his 1969 BRG Daimler V8-250 auto saloon which he wants to sell.

Late age has got the better of him with regard to driving the car - it is infrequently used and he accepts it is time to sell, but reluctantly so.

I viewed the car today and it is a decent example which requires a little TLC.

Registered in September 69 and was Sable Brown in colour. The car had an extensive body rebuild from Feb 95 to Apr 97 with the colour being changed to BRG. The car is structurally sound throughout with no rot and it's garaged.

Over the years the body has picked up the odd mark here and there but nothing dreadful. Car has a Webasto sunroof along with a change over to wires; the owner still has the original steel wheels.

Engine starts on the button and runs very nicely with a small trace of smoke, but pleased to say no oil in the tubes. Yes it does drip a bit of oil but not major; usual V8-250 situation. Auto gearbox changes smoothly and oil is the correct red with no browning.

Engine bay could do with a tidy and clean and as I said early on it just needs some TLC.

Chrome is decent.

The seats will need some attention as they have started to crack - the driver seat being the worst.

Full set of MOT's and current until April 2020. Mileage is just on 90K - if you look at the GOV MOT website you can see how little it has been used over the last 14x years.

Plenty of history with the car and a nice show board to go with it as well.

The car will advertised in the March DM, but thought here would be a good start.

Of note and of particular interest is the non-transferable registration number: VEE 8 D................... very nice indeed, albeit the plate colour (F&R) is wrong !!

V5C in the owners name etc.

This is just a brief overview to flag the car. On a personal note, I would say the car is a worthy of purchase and if I did not have my own V8 saloon I would be very interested indeed. The seller is not being unreasonable asking £11K OVNO, but will not entertain any stupid offers, hence the OVNO.

Please drop me an email via the Forum if interested to make further enquiries or require extra information.

Some photos attached, if you require additional photos which I have please email me with your PM.

Many thanks.

Richard.

Looks very presentable as you say. If I had my 7 car garage I'd be interested. The number plate colour is quite valid for a 1969 car, the white and yellow reflective ones were legal from 1968 onwards and many motorists would have bought them for their new cars, not wanting the "old style" (think today latest iPhone) and many others would have been changed by dealers on the secondhand market to "update" the cars appearance on their forecourts.

Thanks Chris,

I thought the plate change was 71 onwards, perhaps that was when it was compulsory do so ............ see how great these Forums are !!

IMHO, reckon it would look better with silver on black {especially green body} but that's just my preference as my late 68 has the silver / black.

Regards.

Hi Richard, it was legal to fit from 1968 (not sure exactly which month but probably January 1st) and became a legal requirement from 1st January 1973. I've had 2 1970 Rovers and both had the reflective plates from new. But the first ones only came as raised plastic lettering style. Only later the flat styles came along.

First the usual question - power steering?
Secondly that registration must be worth a bit?

I am curious whether this is a later chassis number to mine (5746) as mine was registered 26th August 1969 and this was September 1969 but cars do sometimes stay in thee showroom for a while.

Hello,

The car is now sold and I do not have access to the vehicle / V5 - if you want to progress your question, you could drop the DLOC Chair (Tony Fardoe) an email as he is now the new owner.

Chair AT dloc DOT co DOT uk

Many thanks.
