Worth a look I would think. Doesn't look a bad old bus.

Sold for £3584, someone got a ridiculous bargain. Honestly, is that all these cars are worth?

For better or worse, yes is probably the answer. I could do with reducing the collection somewhat but instead another few have arrived because there are so many "bargains" going around. Looking back at The Automobile from the 1990s, 20s and 30s cars which aren't perceived as sports models have about £10000 + off them now if they were in the £15000 - £25000 bracket. There's been signs of movement with some open cars in the last week or so but prices look as if they are in free fall at present.

The only problem is, what to do with the rather nice ones which literally no one wants but now take up garaging space and if something major needs fixing, it only adds to a bigger overall loss. A friend of mine has been trying to sell a mid 20s 20hp car for over a year now and he has knocked a lot off it - I would have it myself but my wife doesn't like it, and he was telling me he has had a steady stream of enquiries at the rate of one every three months. Every one has been from someone approaching 90 and it remains unsold. Eventually it will sort itself out but there could be quite a bit of pain before that.

I often wonder if the next generation are not so interested any more in old cars. My son has told me has no interest in taking on my old DB18. A friend is having problems in selling up his old motorcycle collection these days too. Perhaps with the future demise of petrol predicted it doesn’t help.

Yes I think you might both be right. It's a sobering thought if it means our hobby is effectively running out of steam. That said, nothing will persuade me to part with my ELS24, so perhaps when the petrol runs out I shall just have to look at it!

Back for auction at Brightwells again: https://www.brightwellslive.com/lot/details/505136

Sold for a very low sum last time, guide price is around the same this time. I wrote an article on this car for the DM, which is now on my website https://87f6521b-7da8-49ed-9f46-dcdccdc ... ccbe1b.pdf which does add the early history of the car. Additionally, when it was converted back to a limousine from a hearse in the '70s, one of the team who did the work was a young member of the RREC. He is now a well known club member and I corresponded with him about this car when it was up for sale last year. Here is part of the email he sent me:

In 1974/5 for reasons of pure sentiment we converted an EL 24 back to a limousine as it had started life. It did wartime service as a hearse, but thankfully undertakers Gays of Barry had kept the trim and panel work. It had stood out for 10+years but we had it running in less than an hour. Local bookmaker had it (l think he won it in a bet, bit wilder in those days) and he took it to Chepstow races once or twice. Anyway, I was asked to do a probate valuation on some cars a month or so back. There she was. Over 40 years since l last saw her. Unstarted for years but well stored. Had it running in minutes which is more than l can say for the Bentley next to it.

Looks a little more sad each time I see it - it seems to be deteriorating fro want of a little more work.
