Special Sports for Sale in Sydney Australia

Post by Peter Grant »

Cheers to all Forum Members.

There is a very well restored Special Sports for sale here.

The car would be well worth considering for someone even factoring in freight costs.

Dear Forum Members,

The Special Sports has now been listed for auction at Shannons here in Sydney.

Here is the listing for it, with some excellent photos that may well be good for future reference on trim and maintenance.

Hi Everyone,
This car sold last night for $AUS40,500.00 plus buyer’s premium.
Pretty much what the owner was expecting.

Peter, thanks for the post. The car looks really good , and correct.

I have downloaded the video to my laptop for future reference.

I was interested in a couple of details -,armrests. I am sure they aren’t original either doors or centre, but for long distance cruising I’m sure they are useful. Not clear how the centre item fits - given that the seats move independently.

Hi,
You are quite correct about the armrests.
the door mounted ones are as per later saloons, off the to of my head not sure if Consort or Conquest.
The centre arm rest is a clever piece that has a keel that slides between the seats and allows it to stay in place.
very handy for long trips and can be designed to store small items, glasses, tissues, or in these days, anti bacterial wipes!
I think the first use of this type of armrest was in John Hiscox’s Freestone and Webb DE27, and was copied by the reporter of this Special Sports and at least one other here in Sydney.
I don;t have either armrest in my car, I tend just to keep a small basket on the floor for storing small items, and don;t miss the centre arm rest or door armrest either,
If I was clever I would try to make a centre console that would sit on the floor and incorporate storage as well as a well in the top to hold small items change, a tin of mints etc handy to reach.
Cheers
