Post by KennethBlanshard »

18 postwar Daimlers on auction now till 26 March at https://www.i-bidder.com/en-gb/auction- ... lse&page=2
All from one collection, by the look of it. Mostly Sovereigns but there is a Majestic, a Majestic Major and one 250 V8. Generally no reserves - ie starting prices £50...

Thanks Kenneth,

I have updated my DLOC V8 Saloon archive file, noting the auction.

Regards.

Very unusual to see so many Daimlers and Jaguars in a private collection. I guess a huge health warning on them all and some look pretty ropey. Maybe an ex trader. The MM doesn't look too bad. Don't think I would want to buy without viewing.

As fewer of us end up with more cars, I suspect this may be the pattern for the future. The big question for "collectors" is when or if to sell, before or after The Big Goodbye. I tell my wife she'd probably get more money for my junk after I was gone than I would while here but on the other hand, I know where all the bits are for everything !

Interesting point Simon. Have come to the conclusion that I am probably the best person to sell the various small items I seem to have collected. At one time I was going to divide amongst friends but they have very different tastes.
I know the auction houses to use etc and I know the history.

It’s JDHT selling the duplicates from their acquisition of the Hull Collection.

Think they sold those some time ago at Bicester.

The V8 250 went for £6,200 + commission + VAT
The Majestic went for £2,800 ++
The Majestic Major was a bargain at £4,200 ++ . I was watching the auction. The auctioneer missed the last two bids (one was online) and finished the auction early. As there were two, apparently keen, bidders I think it would have gone a bit higher.

The mm now for sale on eBay for just shy of £10k.

The description implies no work has been done, so would imply a healthy profit for the buyer.

However, this time the seller can go see, and maybe test drive the car. Pictures look good, but let’s see in the flesh.
