Hi Simon , yes totally agree with your comments, will try and look up WS 3278 and see what info I can find.
The thing is, Chris says it dates from 1934, which is confined in my records, but I wonder if it has had a Chassis ? change as records don’t usually lie, would like confirmation that the Chassis dates that I have are indeed correct ?
Also, did the “late”( circa mid 1935) LA10’s have Hydraulic or Rod Brakes like the 1936/39 LA 11’s
Cheers A’l :)

Just re-read the write up ,and it does state that this car has mechanical Rod operated Brakes, so can someone answer the above question.?
Just wish I knew more!!
Perhaps one of you more knowledgeable gent could furnish me with details of changes down through the years . It would certainly help me being the Registrar for this model 😀😀😀

Hi, WS3278 now registered as BSJ693,, Colour Black / Green, so at least She’s still alive and kicking out there !
Last known location was Warwickshire, and was up for sale in 2013 .
Cheers A’l :D

PS , Sorry forgot to put the Chassis No on here, it’s :- 24498. Eng No 22912 ( This is the “List” No ,not the Eng No )

Hello Al, thanks for the update on the 1935 10 I had. I despise plate robbers, no point in pretending otherwise!
Anyway, regarding hydraulic brakes. They were gone by autumn 1934. The easy way to tell what braking system a car has is the hanbrake. A push on handbrake means it has hydraulics but a pull up handbrake is Girling rods.
Personally, my preference, particularly for a car that is infrequently used, is for rods. Leave them six months and the car works just as well as the day you left it.

Hi Simon, so to sum up ( well for today at least!).
We have an LA10 , quoted as being a1933 car , with full ? history, that appears to have a later body style than its “ Period” brothers, is fitted with Mechanicle Brakes, and carries a Chassis No that would appear to be from the 1935 list ( If my information is correct )
Very interesting !!

Cheers A’l :D

Hi, just studied lots of LA 10 pictures on Google to study the differences in body style for ‘ sat 1933 and 34/35 and it’s pretty plain to see that this car is later than 1933 date that it’s quoted to being from , but it’s still a mystery car!

Cheers A’l :D

If it helps at all, my LA10 Coupe first registered 16th December 1933 and described as being a 1934 model has a chassis number of 21735 and engine number of 22469. These numbers are taken from the original buff log book and are correct. Hydraulic brakes, no quarter lights and plain door panels. My modern V5C says that the car is 1203cc and this is backed up by a sales brochure of the time that I have. I don't think that Sherlock Holmes did cars. Good mystery though.
