Petrol tank flush

Post by philv8 »

Hi All,
Im going to take my fuel tank out and flush it as it has that old emulsion paint smell.
The petrol that was in there would have been there for about 20 years.
Someone told me to fill it with cider vinegar, leave it for a week and then jetwash it out !
As you guys are the experts i thought id ask.
Anyone done this before or is there another way?

Thanks
Phil

The tank on my V8 250 was recently flushed out with Brake Fluid.

Phil,
I was recomended a product by Bilt Hamber called Deox-c to clean my fuel tank. It did a fantastic good job leaving it clean and no sign of rust. See link below

I have also used their rust preventer spray in the chassis it too was very good.

To add another option, I flushed, cleaned and sealed my V8 Saloon tank with a kit of POR15 products from Frost (Rochdale) several years ago; the first stage was cleaning with Cleaner/Degreaser, formerly known as Marine Clean, diluted with hot water. It came up very clean and the (hard, epoxy) sealant applied to complete the job worked well too, although I ended-up ordering more to give it a second coat to achieve a finish with which I was satisfied. Of course, if you don't have a problem with your tank's integrity, you wouldn't need the sealant.
