V8 250 SUMP
V8 250 SUMP
Hi , on the V8 250 engine ,the sump appears to be bolted to the engine backplate so it seems that the sump can not be removed without separating the engine from the gearbox and then removing the clutch and flywheel ,am I right in assuming this or am I missing something, also why is this the case with the V8 250 sump when the Dart sump just bolts to the block as normal ?Regards, Terry.

Re: V8 250 SUMP
I am quite certain that ( on my manual OD car ) there is no fixing of the sump which is internal to the bellhousing and which cannot be reached. It is some years now since I had mine in pieces , but I do have vague recollections that in addition to the 16 vertical bolts holding the sump on, there was a tie bar arrangement ( which I cannot find on the parts diagram ) and it may be this you are thinking of. I am quite sure you do not need to remove the engine to remove the sump !
Re: V8 250 SUMP
there are indeed 2 bolts that fit into the rear of the sump.. but they are easily accessible and go through the bell housing, backplste and bolt into sump.. they have a 9/16" head size on them as they are 3/8"NC .. looking from under the car from rear it would be the lowest l/h bolt (just to right of starter) and the 3rd to right from that bolt.. with these removed (and all the other sump bolts out) the stump will come off with engine in situ.
